In the 13th district of Paris, there is a place where we want to build a student residence for 100 students.
In this project, we separate two status of the student life with two types of spaces : life in community spaces and alone life spaces.
There is no more appartment but only sleeping units and common spaces.
The common spaces are positioned on the backyard and have south sun lightening. The individual spaces are positioned on the street and have the north homogeneous light.
In the sleeping units we find only two uses : sleep and wash. In the common spaces, we find 3 other uses : eat, relax and work.
The facades of the builing are designed according to these uses.
The north facades, the two with the sleeping units, are covered with an additional skin made of perforated metal sheet.
The south facades have exterior corridors with vegetated shutters giving to these facades a dynamic design. The shutters also have a sun breaker effect protecting the windows behind.
The streets around the new student residence have different altimetries (6 meters). The link between them is made with large public stairs also the entrance of the residence.
This entrance attract the inhabitants of the neighbourhood in the backyard where they can find a participatory vegetable garden and sale spaces wher they can buy good products coming from the vegetable garden.
In the top floor, there are spaces linked to the vegetable garden activity. A part of the activity is developed on the roofs, an other on the facades and the last in the backyard.
Last, but not least, irrigation systems are developed in the vegetable garden. The rain water is collected and sotcked in a tank at the parking level.
