La Plata (Argentine)
T Y P O L O G Y :
A new city on a petroleum site
D A T E :
July 2017 (Master 1, S8)
This new-city, which we designed with 9 other students from différents countries during my year in Argentina, is located between two cities of the Buenos Aires province : Ensenada and La Plata.
Re-Activa, as the name suggests, reactivate an industrial petroleum site, owned by YPF group, considering that it will be abandonned at the dawn of 2060.
The wolrd is currently changing and new forms of energies are developed to find alternatives to oil production. Knowing oil industry would’nt last forever, and being optimistic with the idea that in a few years there will be a lot a new energies to replace it, we chose to install our city in this oil platform.
Following an analysis of the characteristics of the site and the "rules" that we had to respect, we decided to install the city in this empty urban space. Agreeing this way to our principal rule : completion. In fact, we saw in this place an opportunity to find a connection between two cities and to bring the city of La Plata to the river.
We also based our thoughts on the idea that we can reactivate some of the former industrial infrastructures to create new appropriable spaces, adapted to current and future uses, and which represent the identity of the Re-Activa city.
Our city had to be extremely dense too (density close to Manhattan's). So we had developed there a city based on different layers, where the street would be multiplied, according to the different flows and uses. (look at the cut sections)
The new 0 level would actually be 12 meters above the ground, thanks to the gateways and bridges, bringing the inhabitants to live a new relation with the earth and the sky.
